Old School Nintendo

I came across this article this week and laughed. Nostalgic feelings came across when I thought of the old school Nintendo. During winter vacation, the Nintendo Wii was the craze. I played it, I was impressed. However, while playing some of the Wii sports I thought about the Nintendo I had when I was growing up. Thinking about the track and field game on the running pad made me smile. The Wii has nothing on that!

Nintendo is awarding their old-school fans with “Wii Points.” With “Wii Points” players can download classic Nintendo, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 games directly to their system. I’m no gamer, but the classic games are the only games I understand!

That article was definitely interesting! It is so funny how, after a certain amount of time, everything ends up becoming cool again in some form or fashion. Personally, I would be amused with Duck Hunt on the Wii. Who didn't love that game?

However, I have to admit I was slightly scared to hear the Wii system is so realistic the U.S. Army even uses it to train troops. Are we really so desperate to save money on our military expenses that we have to buy Nintendo for our soldiers? No matter how advanced these systems are, I have to admit I feel a smidgen less secure knowing that our soldiers are practicing life or death maneuvers on a video game console.

My brother actually downloads old-school games for his Nintendo Wii, and I think it's awesome that they offer them. Players can download the games by connecting to the internet directly through the Wii. I think it's pretty cool.

When I was home for winter break in December, I went to 7-11 for a Slurpee (I'm addicted, and there is no 7-11 in Gainesville). They had a promotion going on, and I actually won a Nintendo Wii off a Slurpee - it was pretty awesome. It arrived in the mail last month, and it's so much fun.

While it will never be the same as the original Nintendo, it makes me wonder if childhood obesity was one of the motivational factors behind making a system like Wii. With regular Nintendo, you can sit around like a bum and play, but with Nintendo Wii, many games require a high level of physical involvement, and Wii Sports even has a Wii Fitness feature. Just a thought!
